Georgina Carson, Partner
Georgina was called to the bar in 1991 and has practiced exclusively family law for over 20 years. Georgina is a senior family law litigator and has been appointed a Dispute Resolution Officer in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, a capacity in which she assists parties in resolving their family law disputes. Georgina is the current Chair of the Family Law Executive of the Ontario Bar Association. She sits on the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Barristers Advisory Group, setting the barrister examination for the bar admission course.
Georgina's approach to family law is solution-based. She invokes alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to assist her clients whenever possible and she attempts to resolve matters efficiently and cost-effectively. Georgina is trained as a collaborative lawyer and is a member of the Collaborative Family Law Association of Ontario. Georgina helps clients resolve often complex custody, support, property and tax issues. She appears in all levels of court in Ontario.
While a panel lawyer through the Office of the Children's Lawyer, Georgina acted on behalf of children, representing them in custody and access disputes as well as in child protection matters.
Georgina is an editor of the Ontario Bar Association's Family Law Newsletter: Matrimonial Affairs. She has twice chaired the prestigious annual Ontario Bar Association's Family Law Institute. Georgina served as executive editor of the Law Society of Upper Canada's Separation Agreement Annotated and she co- authored materials for the Law Society of Upper Canada bar admission course. She has been a contributing author to Carswell's Handling a Family Law Matter in Ontario.
Georgina is a popular speaker, writer and teacher of family law. She has chaired and/or delivered papers at numerous legal education programs including the following:
